Hi everyone!
We have started a few new topics in the classroom this week. In Language Arts we will be talking about the Human body. We are starting with the skeletal system and will move into the circulatory, and respiratory systems from there. I've had lots of exclamations that the students are learning things "that they never knew before". This is always exciting to hear! In math we are focusing on counting on from a given number. Students are often given a number to start, such as 42 and then given an image that has 3 groups of tens and 2 ones. Their counting would look like this: "42,52,62,72,73,74- the final number is 74." Ask your child if they have learned a trick for counting by tens using a 100s chart (there is one in their agendas).

Hi Everyone!
Monday September 30th is Orange Shirt Day for students all across Canada. Orange Shirt Day is a day when we honour the Indigenous children who were sent away to residential schools in Canada and learn more about the history of those schools. We are inviting all students of Chelsea Elementary to wear an orange shirt on Monday to show honour and support to Indigenous cultures around Canada that are such an integral part of our Canadian Identity. In addition, we will be visiting the Chelsea Public library monthly starting in October. As a part of our zero waste initiative at school, we will be making library bags out of old T-shirts. Our project will work best with an adult sized shirt rather than a child's sized shirt. If you could please send one in with your child over the next week, it would be appreciated. If possible, please label the shirt with your child's name. Have a great weekend ahead! Welcome, everyone, to our class website!
We have had a great year together so far. We are settling in well together and the students are demonstrating such respect and kindness for one another as we begin the school year. Each week I will update the class website with our weekly Power Words which can be found under the tab "Power Words". You can also find a class list in the tabs above. I will be updating the site with topics we are exploring in mathematics and language so that you can better support your child at home. This month in math we are focusing on number patterns. Students will learn about skip counting by 2, 5 and 10, and they will become very familiar with how to use a 100s chart and number like to help them with their skip counting. An example of questions they might see include: Fill in the missing numbers: 16 ____ 18 ____ 20 ____ 22 Or Complete the number pattern: 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, ____, ____, ____ Or 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 What is the rule: ______________________ . |
